Mishock Physical Therapy Gives Back!
This holiday season Mishock Physical Therapy & Associates made an effort to help as many local school districts and charities as possible. We understand that the holiday rush may burden community members with unforeseen costs so anything we can do to assist is welcomed.
Specifically, Mishock PT reached out to Pottstown School District and found that their mandatory dress code policy made it difficult for some families to purchase needed items like polo shirts and khaki pants. John Amato, Director of Community Relations, noted that over 70% of his 3,000 students will qualify for free or reduced lunches this year, putting their families in the low-income bracket. Armato, who slated Edgewood Elementary as the district school that was the most in need, stated that "Mishock PT's donation of $200 in Visa gift cards will surely help ease the burden on many parents this year." (See photo of Edgewood principal, Dr. Angela Tuck and students accepting the donation.)
Another local initiative that Mishock Physical Therapy supports is called 'Operation Back Pack.' This program, which began in 2009 under True-to-Life ministries and benefits the Pottstown School District, collects food to give to children to bring home in their backpacks over the weekend. Nearly 17 million, or one in four, American children are at risk for hunger. Children who struggle with hunger are in jeopardy for slowed brain development, lower concentration in school, and an increased likelihood of behavioral issues. Shockingly, 13.8% of children in Pennsylvania live in poverty. Mishock PT had food bins out in all office locations from September - November.
The Methacton School District sponsored 80 local families for Thanksgiving dinner this year. District Social Worker, Jen Johnson, explained that certain financial criteria are used to select which families qualify for a sponsorship. Food items as well as grocery store gift cards are given anonymously to the chosen families the week before the turkey-filled holiday so they have plenty of time to shop. Mishock Physical Therapy has in turn sponsored five of those families and donated $200 in Giant gift cards. (See photo of Dr. John and Michelle Mishock donating gift cards).
Every year the Oley Valley School District helps families in their community by posting ANGEL trees around their district offices with tags that list specific items that families are in need of like a pair of jeans for a teenage girl or building blocks for a toddler. This year Mishock Physical Therapy stationed an ANGEL tree in their Gilbertsville office. (See photo of collected gifts).
In addition to helping local school districts Mishock Physical Therapy is also participated in a local chapter of Toys for Tots.

Swamp Pike Soiree Raises $1,500
for Boyertown Charity!
On Saturday, October 23rd the "swamp six" (Mishock Physical Therapy & Associates, New Hanover Chiropractic, Salon & Medical Spa at Lords & Ladies, Hoffman & West Certified Public Accountants, Complete Family Eye Care, and an orthodontics office called the Smile Specialists) held a charity event in their Gilbertsville business complex that raised over $1,500 for the Boyertown Multi-Service, which runs a senior center and a Meals on Wheels program for local residents.
Patrons were asked to walk around to each business with a postcard and collect stamps, which ultimately turned into a $5 donation/card from the "swamp six" (605 cards were turned in!). Event bracelets were also sold for $2 adults/$1 child and translated into apple pie, Rita's Ice, a hot dog, tomato pie, games, face painting, and two pie throws at the person of your choice. Raffles for luxury items like massages and salon treatments, as well as a homemade quilt also brought in cash for the charity.
The family-friendly event included music, games, furry alpacas for the kids to pet, and an apple pie contest that drew in 24 local contestants. One representative from each business judged submissions based on taste, texture, and appearance. Local resident Jean Moyer took home first prize with Tina Weaver and Joyce Brower coming in second and third.
Speaking of pies, there was also a fun-filled pie throwing booth where members from each business took turns getting faces full of whipped cream! Mishock Physical Therapy owner, Dr. John Mishock took a record number of hits with Dr. Tim Daughton of New Hanover Chiropractic coming in a close second. Everyone involved was a very good sport! (See photograph of Dr. Mishock and his wife Michelle).
A big thanks to those who donated their time and products like Rita's Italian Ice, Corropolese Bakery, Freed's Supermarket, Liz's Face Painting, New Hanover Fire Dept., Illusion Ranch Alpacas, and Philly Pretzel Factory. And much gratitude for everyone who volunteered the day-of and took time to come and enjoy the event!

Mishock Physical Therapy Donates School Supplies
to Pottsgrove Students in Need
Mishock Physical Therapy is a proud sponsor of the Pottsgrove School District. This fall during the 'back-to-school' season when many families may be affected by the difficult economic climate Mishock PT wanted to help those students who could not afford to purchase needed supplies for the upcoming school year. Items such as back packs, pencil cases, notebooks, folders, pens, and pencils were provided to district social workers Liz Rakoff and Jamie Slack (pictured) on Thursday, September 9th to be distributed to those students who were deemed most in need. In addition to the $200 worth of supplies Mishock PT also donated a $100 Staples gift card so additional items can be purchased throughout the year.
Slack and Rakoff said that approximately 5-10% of families with children in kindergarten up to high school cannot afford to purchase items such as book bags and calculators for their children, so all donations are appreciated at any time during the year. "Sometimes teachers go into their own pockets to purchase supplies so every little bit helps," said Slack. To donate items directly to Pottsgrove School District please call Liz Rakoff at 610-323-7510, x4074.

Mishock PT Helps Haiti Victims
Get Back on Their Feet
On Tuesday, April 13 at 8 am John R. Mishock, PT, DPT, DC, owner of Mishock Physical Therapy, with locations in Montgomery, Berks, & Chester counties, will be donating over 200 ambulatory items to aide in the relief of the January 12th earthquake that shook the island of Haiti. Staff members, local doctors, patients, and community members collected various items such as wheel chairs, crutches, canes, and walkers.
"We urged everyone to clean out their basements and attics where usable equipment is usually stored. There are an estimated 300,000 musculoskeletal injuries as of yet - including fractures, breaks, muscles tears, and amputations- and our hope is to contribute to the recovery as well as the prevention of future damage for those who were crushed in the quake," noted Dr. Mishock.
Mishock PT has been working with the charitable organization Life Line to organize the transfer of items from the United States. Limerick based trucking company, Buckman's Incorporated, which owns five ski shops in the surrounding areas, has also donated their time to assist in this process. The practice will continue to collect items on an on-going basis in case another large-scale natural disaster should strike. To donate an ambulatory item please call 610-327-2600.
